The one and only place that I badly want to visit is Cairo. I don’t know why, but I really want to visit the Great Pyramid of Giza. It has always been one of my favorite wonder of the world besides the Great Wall of China. At one point of time I wanted to be an archeologist just to go and discover this place by myself. Just because I felt in love wit it. Of course apart from being the only surviving ancient wonder of the world, its unique structure has always made me interested in it. Some must be wondering what is so great about a triangle in the center of one of the driest and hottest place in the world. Well.. You’ll be surprised!! It’s not just an ordinary triangle. It was once the tallest structure ever made until the 19th centuries, and it was build around 3350 B.C. so just imagine!! It has been the tallest building for the past 47 centuries!!. It’s 145.75m tall (but has lost 10m over the years) and was made of 2 million blocks of stone with each weighing 2000 kg by 100’000 slaves for over 20 years. Some of the archeologist claims that if pyramid was broken, the bricks from it could be made into a 3m tall and 0.3m thick wall around France!! Now isn’t that interesting??
I mean how could people centuries ago carry bricks weighing 2 ton up to 147m? And that too without any equipments? Isn’t that impossible for us in this modern world?. So how did they carry it? Moreover cutting it and placing it in such a way that there is only error of 5 cm in all four faces!! Wow! In addition to that, The 4 faces of pyramid are also placed in such position that it is facing north (cold), south (heat), east (light) and west (dark). Now how were they able to position it so accurately? That too without a compass? Hmm.. now that’s a wonder.. It seems the ‘weather man’ at that time used the pyramid to make out what time and what season was it by looking at the reflection of light through the shining limestone used to build the pyramids.
Now who ever came up with the idea of doing this great historical structure of the world? Well.. It was made by the fourth dynasty Egyptian king Khufu. It was suppose to be built as a tomb for him (don’t ask me why that big). Unfortunately there is no evidence proving that the king was buried there. However, some archeologist did set foot in it and discovered that the pyramid might have been used once as a palace!! They found 3 big ‘rooms’ in the pyramid. The queen’s room, the grand room and the king’s room with the queen’s room being on the lowest floor followed by the grand room in the middle and the king’s room at the highest peak. Due to this, some doesn’t believe that the king being buried there because the Egyptian believes when one dies, the body should be in the earth and the spirit in the air. Therefore the king might not be buried there or might have been but not in his room (coz it’s on the top floor) but in the ground. No one could ever figure that out.. At least not until someone digs up the pyramid to find out the truth.. Hope no one does that.. at least not until I see it!! and eventhen..hope no one is stupid and greedy enough to break it!! its worth more than all the jewelry hidden under the pyramid. (kings usually are buried with all their jewelry when they are buried. And im certainly sure king Khufu was very -very rich man)
