AdVeRtIseMeNts..
Every now and then I wonder if advertisements are actually beneficial or not to the consumers. No doubt it has informed lots of consumers about new products and the usage of it. But at the same time I feel like as though advertisement is no longer a place to provide information. It has been misused and indirectly it has change public’s perception on how things work. Few decades back I don’t think people ever did care about body weight or skin colour, having firm skin or even the paint colour of the wall. For them being healthy and living in a house that was comfortable to be called home was more than enough.
But in this generation, the people’s point of view has changed. Naturally it has changed mine too. And why not? The main medias in the nation have influence us so much that now days the only things we care about is having all the new equipments that are ‘hot’ in the market now, being slim, having nice beautiful fair skin, having nice big houses in ‘classy’ area, new expensive clothes and the list goes on.. The media has really influence the people around tha
t the public can’t even think for their own good. What’s wrong by being fat? What’s wrong by having brown Asian skin? whats wrong with aging skin? Whoever said that by using a certain gel to get a certain 'spiky' hair would attract the prettiest girl on the street?.or using a certain perfume will end u up to a nice romantic candle light dinner? Do we really need to buy expensive big diamond set to win a girl's heart? Why cant we be ourselves? Why must we be shy with whoever we are? Isn't that the way we were set to be? Then why is it that everyone should change to be the same?
Why must everyone have the same skin colour and the same body figure or even same hair style??!! Whatever happened to variation? Whatever happened to being natural?
I know we will never be able to stop the media from influencing people, but I do really hope people will stop getting influenced and start thinking. Even if you can’t help yourself, then at least don’t discriminate others who do so. Never look down on people who are modest in life, And certainly not at all to outcast those who are fat and dark. Because no matter what, (like what my lecturer once said) ‘Black is Beautiful, and Fat is Sexy’
